The 126th Canton Fair successfully concluded in Guangzhou on November 4. Xu Bing, spokesperson of the Canton Fair and deputy director of China Foreign Trade Center, introduced the overall operation of the Canton Fair.
Xu Bing said that the 126th Canton Fair was held on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the founding of New China, which was of great significance. Guided by Xi Jinping's thoughts on socialism with Chinese characteristics in the new era, this session of the Canton Fair is closely focused on the task of improving the quality of foreign trade, and adopting a series of pragmatic measures to support enterprises to promote transactions, expand markets, and create brands. The complex and severe foreign trade situation has injected more stability and positive energy. Under the cordial care of the Party Central Committee and the State Council, with the great attention and strong leadership of the Ministry of Commerce and the Guangdong Provincial People's Government, and with the strong support of commerce departments across the country, the joint efforts of all the participants made the overall smooth operation of the Canton Fair. And successfully complete all tasks.
Xu Bing introduced that under the background of the slowdown of the world economic growth and the more complicated and severe foreign trade environment, buyers will meet expectations and the quality will be steadily improved. There were 186,015 buyers at the 126th Canton Fair, from 214 countries and regions, a year-on-year decrease of 2%.
In 2018, China's top ten trading partner countries and regions accounted for 61.62% of the total number of participants. There were 85,445 buyers from countries along the “Belt and Road”, an increase of 1.03% year-on-year, accounting for 45.93%, and an increase of 1.37 percentage points.
The top 20 countries and regions attending the conference accounted for 60.56% of the total attendance. The top 10 countries and regions for attendance are: Hong Kong, China, the United States, India, Thailand, South Korea, Russia, Taiwan, Japan, Malaysia and Indonesia.
In the latest announcement of the world ’s top 250 retail companies in 2019, 107 companies attended the conference, and five of the top 10 were Wal-Mart, Schwarz, Amazon, Walgreens, and CVS Health.
Internationally renowned chain companies such as German Lide Company, American Health Brand Company, French Ao Shang Group, South Korea Lock & Lock, Spain's TAURUS GROUP, Finland's KESKO GROUP, and Indonesia's Changyou Group continue to participate in the Canton Fair multinational company procurement activities.
Among the buyers attending the conference, electronics and home appliances accounted for 40.71%, consumer goods accounted for 31.93%, home decorations accounted for 28.34%, gifts accounted for 27.23%, and machinery accounted for 26.48%.
Xu Bing said that the export transactions of this session of the Canton Fair were generally stable, and the pace of high-quality foreign trade development accelerated. Cumulative export transactions totaled 207.09 billion yuan (US $ 29.288 billion), a year-on-year decrease of 1.9%.
Mechanical and electrical products still ranked first. The turnover of mechanical and electrical products was US $ 15.941 billion, accounting for 54.43% of the total turnover; the sales of light industrial products were US $ 7.22 billion, accounting for 24.65% of the total turnover; the turnover of textiles and apparel was US $ 1.683 billion, accounting for 5.75% of the total turnover.
The turnover of private enterprises was US $ 22.164 billion, an increase of 0.28%, accounting for 75.67% of the total turnover.
The brand exhibition area was well sold. A total of 9.226 billion US dollars of transactions, accounting for 31.57% of the total turnover.
Exports to countries along the “Belt and Road” route amounted to US $ 11.056 billion, an increase of 14.81%, accounting for 37.75% of the total turnover.
Exports to the BRICS countries were 3.65 billion US dollars, an increase of 4.17%; exports to ASEAN were 3.435 billion US dollars, an increase of 39.22%; and export transactions to Africa were 2.813 billion US dollars, an increase of 10.72%.
Xu Bing said that this session of the Canton Fair further promotes the construction of the Smart Canton Fair. The online and offline integration is taking shape with six new business models, including smart service, preview, smart business travel, supply and procurement docking, Canton Fair certification, and enterprise promotion. Intelligent services are fully optimized and upgraded. According to statistics, this session of the Canton Fair has accumulated 234,080 WiFi Internet users, a year-on-year increase of 43%. The number of on-site information stations has been viewed more than 173,000 times. More than 228,000 visits were made to the exhibitor query system. The "brand window" column attracted wide attention, with 42,000 visits, effectively promoting brand companies to explore the international market. The results achieved by the construction of the Smart Canton Fair show that the Canton Fair is not only a “big guy” in import and export trade, but also a “big wisdom” in digital construction; Global; not only committed to creating a platform combining online and offline, but also opened a high-quality development road, writing a lively footnote for "Digital China".
